It was back in the summer.  The smells I could smell were heavy and warm and wonderful.  Flowers and grass, rain and dirt.  The smell of sunshine, the sound of dandelion fur in the breeze.
Dad and Mom we’re rushing around, filling bags of all our stuff.  I was afraid they were leaving me alone, because I knew they were leaving.  They kept talking about “Trip”.  “Trip to Grandma’s”.  I knew, although I don’t know how, that it was a long way away.  Longer than any adventure I had ever been on.  Farther than the park.  Farther than Grandfather’s.
When Mom and Dad came back in for ME, I was so happy!  I was going on the trip too.  They took me in a new vehicle, one I’d never seen or smelled before.  It looked like a big bug, but the car had a back seat, just for me.  I slept allot on the way to the mountain town of Tennessee.  My ears made bubbles inside as we went up and down the mountains, on the way to meet grandma.  And someone else.
We meet grandma at the door.  She was so nice to me.  Dad ordered Pizza Hutt and still gave me tastes, even though we weren’t at home.  Mom and Dad were so tired, but there was one more trip to make before we could sleep that night.  Mom  grew up in Tennessee, but still got lost.
We pulled up to a big house, far off the road.  I heard lots of barking, but had never met the dogs.  There was a big dog leashed in the back, so I stayed in the car.  Then Mom came back with a tiny, fuzzy, lump of tan fur.
Mom was so happy.  Dad was smiling too.  You see, mom’s heart was broken, and there was little Dad and I could do to fix it.  My best friend Smokie had to go away that summer.  Now I see him all the time; his mist form, but they don’t.  He’ll visit and talk to me and bark at the mailman, just like before.
Mom cried allot and spoke to him allot, but for some reason, neither of them could listen and see.  It’s OK, Smokie seems to understand why.  Like I said he visits all the time.
So this little fur came into our car and spent the night at grandma’s with us.  Then we went back to Indiana.  At first I was upset.  I was the only dog.  I wanted to be their only dog.
But then, we did something wonderful!  We Played.  And we played and played some more.  I had so much fun playing with my sister, I couldn’t imagine not playing with her!  The doctor told Dad that she would keep me young and fit.
I’m so happy that I have my sister, Autumn.
